Biography
Dr. Naeim has over 40 years of experience in structural analysis, design, peer review, research and development, and seismic retrofit design of buildings. He has special expertise in the application of performance-based design methodologies, design of systems with seismic isolation and energy dissipation devices and seismic instrumentation and health monitoring of structures. He is a Past President of Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), current member of California Hospital Building Safety Board (HBSB), current Chair of California Strong Motion Instrumentation Advisory Committee (SMIAC), current President of Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council (LATBSDC) and current President of International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE). Dr. Naeim is the primary author of the LATBSDC performance-based design guidelines and a co-author of PEER-TBI performance-based design guidelines for tall buildings. Citing his contributions to performance-based seismic design of tall buildings and other structures, he was elected to National Academy of Engineering in 2022.
