Eric C. Shen

Biography

Professor Shen's professional career has progressed through technical, management, and executive leadership roles across the public and private sectors, including federal government and academia. His expertise spans multimodal transportation planning, freight and goods movement, capital project delivery, interagency coordination, and transportation policy.

Professor Shen has taught at USC since 2008 in both the Viterbi School of Engineering and the Sol Price School of Public Policy. He currently teaches sustainable transportation and transportation studio courses and serves as Faculty Advisor to the USC Institute of Transportation Engineers (USC ITE) and Chi Epsilon (XE), the civil engineering honor society.

Over his 30-year career, Professor Shen has held leadership positions including Executive Director of Eco-Rapid Transit, Chief Engineer of the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, Mid-Pacific Gateway Director for the U.S. Maritime Administration, Director of Transportation Planning at the Port of Long Beach, and Transportation Planning & Development Manager for the City of Pasadena. He has also served in national leadership roles with the Transportation Research Board, including chairing its Marine Group and Ports and Channels Committee.

Professor Shen is a registered Professional Engineer in California and Alabama, a Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), a Certified Port Executive (CPE™), and a Fellow of both the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE).
