Congratulations to the winning teams of our 2023 Das Family Student Innovation Competition: Sustana and Green Beings! Both teams impressed the judges with their pitches for innovative solutions to LA's problems. We also want to recognize teams TranSync and Arrival for their hard work in the competition leading up to Final Pitch Day. The judges were hard-pressed to pick a winner out of the competing teams.

Our department celebrated our 2023 CEE Alumni Awards on Friday, March 24, 2023. We honored Michael Markus (Lifetime Achievement Award), Dr. Andrew Smyth (Distinguished Alumni Award), and JT Max (Junior Alumni Award) for their contributions to the field as exceptional graduates of our school. We are thrilled to have such accomplished alumni using their degrees in CEE to improve the world we live in!

Despite the current effort to recycle and reuse plastics, most still ends up in the landfill. Dr. Wang and PhD student Yanchu Zhang are researching ways to alter the properties of plastics to upcycle the waste!
