WTS International focuses on the advancement of women in the transportation industry. This year, multiple students from USC were awarded scholarships by the WTS Los Angeles chapter including the following students from the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering:
• Jessica Brown, who is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering—building sciences, was awarded the $8,000 Ava Doner scholarship. The Ava Doner scholarship was established in 2000 to encourage women to pursue careers in transportation engineering.
• Emily On, who is pursuing a master of science degree in civil engineering—transportation engineering, was awarded a $10,000 Ava Doner scholarship.
• Zhaoyang Li, who is pursuing a master of science degree in civil engineering—transportation engineering, was awarded a $5,000 Build Your Dreams Scholarship. BYD is the world’s leading electric vehicle company, and supports women’s career development in the transportation sector through this scholarship.
• Christine Stavish, who is pursuing a bachelor and master of science degree (in the progressive degree program) in civil engineering—transporation engineering, was awarded a $5,000 Jacobs Engineering Scholarship. Jacobs Engineering supports the WTS with this scholarship to help a promising young woman in transportation engineering achieve her career goals.
